Funny for the day

There are some things that it seems the internet was made for. This is one of them. Enjoy.

Trixerdesigns.com

The mail person brought us a bundle of gifts today. Maggie is visiting. Her sister, Christie, is a very talented seamstress! I just ordered a new wristlet and some napkins. Lola received some very cool felt veggies. Maggie received a new prototype. Great stuff!

Me with my new wristlet!

I also have a diaper bag that I bought before Sid was born. She does fantastic work. Take a minute to check out her website wwww.trixerdesigns.com and fill your cart!

“A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.”

This morning I had to make a difficult decision that many pet owners must do. Daisy was put to sleep this morning after a period of decline in her health. She was thought to be around 9 years, but we now think she was much older.

I acquired Daisy in the Summer of 2003 after I met Marc. I was called by a lady who rescues small dogs. I had to decline to come and see her as were going on vacation in a few days. I called the woman back within 5 minutes just to set up a time to come and see her. She barked at me when she met me and I knew that I wanted to take her home. I remember her sitting on the front seat of the car like it was where she belonged and had done it all along. She took to our life very easily and found her cozy spots that she spent most of her time in.

It was a very difficult decision. But with the guidance of our vet, we decided that this was the best thing for her.

Java

I like coffee. I think I have become more of a coffee lover since I have been with Marc. He used to brew individual cups every morning by pouring hot water through a filter that sat atop the cup. Yummy. We are huge connoisseurs of coffee. We frequent coffee joints and when on vacation, the first thing we scout out is a good coffee place. When Starbucks opened a new place close to us, we were ecstatic. We like Purple Bean, but it is inconsistent. Starbucks usually tastes the same. We have had to put up with some awful and erratic service, but it seems to be getting better.

I am now drinking soy lattes since giving up milk and prefer a sugar-free syrup to avoid some calories. Purple Bean has the largest assortment of sugar-syrups that I have ever seen. Starbucks only had two. No more. I pulled up today to find that they have expanded their menu to carry.......drum-roll, please.........5 sugar-free syrups. They call them 'Skinny Lattes.'

This is not a huge increase. But 5 choices is more than 2 and I may just hold up that drive through a bit longer as I make my decision.

CHEERS!

Snow

I was a little skeptical of actually getting a historical snow storm, but we did get hit pretty hard. It rained all day yesterday and then snowed heavily after. This morning was pretty clear. Marc went to the vet's office to get some medicine for Daisy (poor old dog), while Lola and I geared up and went outside to play. She's got a little cold, but it was so much snow! We pulled the sled out, slid down the driveway and then I pulled her down the street. Here are some pictures:

They say there is more to come. We had a bit more today and it is snowing lightly now. Ah, Reno Winters. And the last huge storm we had was after Lola was born. Wonder what my kids do to make the weather do this?

The tube

Oh yeah, I wanted to post this a few days ago. A recent Lola obsession: YouTube. It's mind-boggling to think that she is growing up thinking that this is normal...a clip from my childhood TV, posted on the net, piped over phone lines to our house, sent wirelessly to our laptop so Lola and I can watch it anytime we want, sitting anywhere in the house. Amazing. And here we are, two bits of nostalgia...I only remember this first one:

but Gigi has practically made this one Lola's theme song:

Happy New Year

2008 is here, and so are we, same as we were yesterday.  Had a nice gathering of a few folks with nothing better to do, ate, drank, and made merry.  Fireworks, crazy dog, the usual scene around here.  My favorite is Lola's assessment that the fireworks on TV in downtown Reno are "totally nuts!"  Big brunch feast today to get the new year started right.

Mostly here to announce a new album in the gallery, photos taken by Lola's camera.  They weren't all taken by Lola (obviously, she's in several of them), and I've sort of lost track of which ones were taken by her and which weren't.  Some of them pretty obviously are hers, but occasionally she takes a really good one.  Pretty low quality, but some of them have a certain low-rez appeal to them.  Sort of.  We'll keep adding things as her photography skills develop.

Best wishes for the new year.
